Our Story

Origin Story:

Our story began in 2017, when we first started roasting Chickadee beans for our cozy coffee shop nestled within a Roasted Pub & Eatery in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. With every cup brewed and every pound sold, we cultivated a loyal local following in the Lakes Area and beyond.

Fueled by this enthusiasm for craft coffee, we embarked on an exciting expansion in 2020 and moved our little roastery to Chickadee farm outside of town. We continue to roast in small batches on our 5-kilo Diedrich roaster with a passion to provide the freshest beans in the Lakes Area. 

Since the move, we have slowly built a list of local wholesale customers who wanted better coffee to offer their customers, staff, guests, or parishioners. From coffee shops (like our sister business 908 Coffee & Tea on Washington Ave in Detroit Lakes), to churches, resorts, co-ops, and grocery, we continue to grow in the Lakes Area.

Being we are in Minnesota, many local snow birds fly south for the winter and they wanted a way to have Chickadee beans down south, so in 2022 we launched an on-line market to facilitate. We now offer great on-line subscription discounts.

Our beans are ethically sourced from farms and cooperatives across the globe that our experienced buyer knows well. We strive to unlock the tantalizing flavor notes in each roast in order to share the story of its origins and coffee traditions. Whether you're intrigued by the pureness of single origins, the harmonious balance of our well-crafted blends, or the sweet flavor of our decafs, we have something to reach every palate.
